AFL Round 17 Preview & Betting – Geelong Vs Brisbane Lions

All eyes will be on the Skilled Stadium come Saturday afternoon to see if Geelong can bounce back from their devastating defeat last round to overcome the Brisbane Lions this weekend.

This could end up a scrappy performance from both sides – with Geelong looking to head back to the top of the ladder, and the Lions attempting to redeem themselves after a string of defeats.

These two met back in round eight, with the Cats coming off the better with an 81-point win away from home over the Lions which confirmed their slippery slope towards the tail end of the ladder.

The Cats are the favourites for this one at $1.06 for the win with, and it is hard to see them conduct anything but a win as they are of the calibre of teams to stand up and fight once they have been knocked down.

Gary Ablett has not played his best for Geelong of late, and if he wants to get attention off his rumoured move to the Gold Coast will have to put the hard yards in on the oval, and if he does the Lions should certainly worry.

Ablett was well below his usual par last round ending on just 19 disposals, while Joel Selwood and Harry Taylor upped their games finishing on 30 and 35 respectively.

The Brisbane Lions have long odds of $9.30, and to be honest it is hard to see them overcoming them this round.

Last weekend saw the Lions dominated by a far superior Hawthorn side, who sit just seventh on the ladder, so will most likely not fare any better up against the second ranked Cats side.

Jonathan Brown was a welcomed return booting three goals, with Brendon Fevola managing just one and no Lions player finished over 23 when it came to the number of disposals in a lacklustre performance.

Matthew Leuenberger was the silver lining on a very bleak cloud for the Lions last round, but facing tough opponents such as Mark Blake and Brad Ottens could prove too tough for the young ruckman.

Our tip of the match is to back a Geelong win by 70-79 points at $11 with

AFLRules Tip Of The Match

It is hard to see this one going in any direction other than a Geelong win, although we said that last round when the Cats faced Adelaide! However the Lions have not looked half the side they were in the opening round of the season for weeks now, and the Cats will certainly be looking to rectify last round’s humiliating performance. With that in mind our tip of the match is to back a Geelong win by 70-79 points at $11 with
