The opening fixture of the round started the weekend as it meant to go on, with Essendon overcoming the odds to demolish St Kilda. The Bombers went in at $4.90 for the win at Ladbrokes.com.au, and after a 16-goal haul, came away 33-point winners after being up by as much as 58 in the third quarter.

Dustin Fletcher was instrumental for the home side, while the Bombers’ midfield dominated the oval, and the formerly feared Saints side crumbled in the face of a team ranked far below them on the ladder.

The result sees the Bombers into 12th place, while St Kilda remain in the top four but lose their grip on the top spot.

The second major upset of round 18, saw the struggling Port Adelaide ($3.30) welcome the in-form Hawthorn ($1.34) to the AAMI, and spectators saw them put the Hawks back in their place with an eight-point win.

It was a superb comeback from the Power after being 18 points down halfway through the third term, who retaliated by booting five of the following seven goals to claim the win which sees them move into 13th, and Hawthorn almost certainly out of contention of a top four finish.

On Sunday afternoon Richmond ($2.42) took on Adelaide ($1.57) at the MCG, and another game resulted in another upset as the Tigers returned to form with a 20-point win thanks to a cracker second half display.

The Crows crumbled in the horrific weather which threw hail at the players, and saw Adelaide’s hopes of reaching the finals marred with just four games to go.

Fremantle rounded off the weekend with a dominant display in the Western Australia derby, beating the Eagles by a huge 75-points, which sees their season back on track.

Round 19 of the 2010 AFL Season bounces off on Friday night when Essendon welcome Carlton to the MCG for an exciting match, but the highlight will certainly be the top-two must-win clash between Geelong at Collingwood on Saturday.
