Bouncing off the finals action, Geelong welcomed St Kilda to the MCG in a rematch of last year’s Grand Final. The Saints headed into this one determined to turn around last year’s result, and that’s exactly what they did.

St Kilda looked superb, every inch the flag-winning team in some wet weather. Geelong have been on top form throughout the season, but seemed to take their foot off the pedal when it mattered most.

They will face Fremantle next weekend in what is set to be a tougher path to the flag than they had hoped for.

Fremantle came out against Hawthorn to prove Mark Harvey’s tactics right when he decided to play a second-string team three weeks ago. The tactics paid off.

Freo’s youngsters looked at ease with the superstars of the squad, and the names Stephen Hill, Anthony Morabito and Nathan Fyfe are ones to look out for in the future.

Fremantle are confident they can overcome their underdog status against the Cats next weekend.

Minor Premiers Collingwood were superb against the Western Bulldogs and thoroughly deserved the 62-point win. The Bulldogs looked entirely out of their depth, but have a second chance against Sydney next weekend.

The Swans sent Carlton home for the season in a thrilling five-point victory at the ANZ. Chris Judd was superb for the Blues in the second half, tearing apart the Swans’ defence which began to crumble.

It was a solid effort in the final term which handed the Swans the crucial win, which sees them through to next week’s action as they line up against the vulnerable Western Bulldogs outfit.
