It looks like we finally have a winner. After two brutal AFL Grand Final matches, the Collingwood Magpies have emerged as this year’s Premiership winners. In what was a stunning return to form for the Collingwood team, they hit the MCG with a determination that had not been seen in the previous AFL Grand Final match to completely dominate the St Kilda Saints. The Magpies took a massive 108-52 victory over their AFL Grand Final replay rivals.
With a combination of fantastic teamwork, aggressive tackling, and strong pressure, the Magpies grabbed onto the lead early on in the match and never gave it up. The Saints never really stood a chance. Leading the Collingwood charge were players such as Scott Pendlebury who had an impressive 29 quality disposals and 11 tackles. Heath Shaw (28 disposals), Dale Thomas (27 disposals), and Dane Swan (26 disposals) were also notable performers for the Magpies. Both Luke Ball and Nathan Brown were also key aspects of Collingwood’s success as the latter did a fantastic job of shutting down St Kilda skipper Nick Reiwoldt.
While St Kilda was thoroughly outplayed, the match also saw some impressive moments for the team. Most notably was that of Brendon Goddard, James Gwilt, and Nick Dal Santo.
While it wasn’t quite the down-to-the-wire showdown of the week before, it seems like a fitting end to what has been an unpredictable AFL season. The Collingwood Magpies are the 2010 Premiership champions.
