AFL Round 6 Betting Guide

After five rounds of AFL just two sides remain undefeated at the top of the table with the impressive West Coast Eagles looking to be the team to beat early and they are joined by the Sydney Swans who proved they are the real deal by disposing of Hawthorn last weekend. There have been some one-sided contests so far this season and that trend looks set to continue heading into round six. It means multi and line betting could be the order of the round with many teams almost certain victors.

Western Bulldogs V Collingwood, Friday May 4, 7:50pm, Etihad Stadium

The Bulldogs have won two games this year but that is more a discredit to their opposition than a credit to them. Prior to coming up against woeful Melbourne and GWS outfits the Bulldogs have looked second rate and they should get a reality check this weekend when facing a Collingwood side eager to prove their premiership credentials. The Magpies currently sit in 10th spot but showed plenty of fight to suggest they mean business last round when beating Essendon by one point.

Collingwood – Win $1.11 Line -40.5 $1.91

Essendon V Brisbane, Saturday May 5, 1:40pm, Etihad Stadium

The Bombers suffered their first loss of the season in a nail-biter to Collingwood despite missing plenty of personnel due to injury and they come up against a Brisbane side that is lacking depth and quality. Expect the Bombers to get their winning form back this weekend when they start as short $1.18 favourites at

Essendon – Win $1.18 Line -29.5 $1.91

Brisbane – Win $5.00 Line +29.5 $1.91

Geelong V Melbourne, Saturday May 5, 1:45pm, Simonds Stadium

It’s been a shocking start to 2012 for the hapless Demons and the bad news is it won’t get any easier as they come up against a star-studded Geelong side who have faced plenty of criticism of late. They have three wins from five games so far but have struggled to put much weaker opposition away but should have no troubles against a Melbourne team who simply look like they don’t belong in the top league at the moment.

Geelong – Win $1.03 Line -56.5 $1.91

Melbourne – Win $12.25 Line+56.5 $1.91

Gold Coast V Fremantle, Saturday May 5, 4:40pm, Metricon Stadium

Fremantle make the trip to the glitter strip to take on a Gold Coast side that is still winless in 2012 and is missing some of their best players. It looks to be another tough year for last year’s newcomers who have struggled to show they can mix it with the big boys in the AFL. Fremantle have impressed with three wins from five games and showed plenty of fight to lose by just eight points to a quality Carlton side last weekend.

Gold Coast – Win $7.00 Line +40.5 $1.91

Fremantle – Win $1.10 Line -40.5 $1.91

St Kilda V Hawthorn, Saturday May 5, 7:40pm, MCG

This is likely to be one of the matches of the round but Hawthorn are still incredibly short-priced favourites ($1.27) despite going down to Sydney in an upset loss on the weekend. The Sainters may not be at their best in 2012 but Hawthorn showed some vulnerabilities against Sydney and this could be one game where an upset may be on the cards.

St Kilda – Win $3.80 Line +26.5 $1.91

Hawthorn – Win $1.27 Line -26.5 $1.91

Sydney V Adelaide, Saturday May 5, 7:40pm, SCG

The Swans have been highly impressive this year in both attack and defence and that is why they sit undefeated with West Coast at the top of the AFL ladder. They looked a polished unit when producing a dominant display over a talented Hawthorn outfit and will start as heavy favourites but the Crows will be no pushover. They have only dropped one match this year and this could well be the match of the round as they look to stick to the Swans and prove themselves as a team to take notice of in 2012.

Sydney – Win $1.25 Line -25.5 $1.91

Adelaide – Win $4.00 Line +25.5 $1.91

Port Adelaide V Richmond, Sunday May 6, 3:15pm, AAMI Stadium

This match is the closest in the betting market and for good reason. These two teams may not challenge any of the top sides for the premiership but they should give each other a few headaches this weekend. Richmond will start as slight favourites after showing plenty of fight when going down to competition front runners West Coast by 10 points but beware the wounded Port who will be hurting after losing their local derby with Adelaide on the weekend.

Port Adelaide – Win $2.10 Line +4.5 $1.91

Richmond – Win $1.74 Line -4.5 $1.91

West Coast V North Melbourne, Sunday May 6, 4:40pm, Patersons Stadium

North Melbourne have been impressive this year in their three wins from five games but they come up against a West Coast team who have simply been dominant this year. The men from the west always seem to be able to find ways to score points and look like a genuine premiership threat after the early stages of the competition. Expect the Kangaroos to try gallantly and put up a fight but the Eagles should have simply too much talent and are always a tough proposition in front of their exuberant home fans.

West Coast – Win $1.23 Line -26.5 $1.91

North Melbourne – Win $4.20 +26.5 $1.91
