A bumper fixture will kick off round 8 of the AFL on Friday night with two star-studded line ups set to face off at the MCG. Geelong have played below their best so far in 2012 and will be out to prove they are a premiership force against a Collingwood side who have been impressive in their five wins this year.
The Magpies have been struggling with injuries to key players of late and they will again have to dig into their reserves to cover for the sidelined Nathan Brown. They are fresh off a thumping win over the Brisbane but will have to be sure to be on their game on Saturday as they face a Geelong side that boasts far more talent than the struggling Lions. Collingwood have not beaten the Cats since 2010 but have a great opportunity to break their duck on Friday against a side that is low on confidence.
The Cats have a tremendous record against Collingwood. In fact, the only three games Collingwood dropped last year came at the hands of Geelong but they have been far below their best this year. One man who has been on fire is captain Joel Selwood who will need to continue his impressive form in order to his inspire his under performing team mates this weekend. A big question is how will the troops bounce back from last weekend when they were dominated across the park in their 50-point loss to Adelaide?
Geelong should be sparked into action after their drubbing at the weekend but it is hard to look past Collingwood who have been tremendous over the past few weeks.
Collingwood by 18
The Magpies look the classier line up in 2012 and provided they can overcome the Geelong bogey factor should be able to cover the -5.5 line.
Collingwood -5.5 $1.90
