Round 10 looks like it will deliver its usual share of one-sided contests but the Friday night clash between Richmond and St Kilda is not likely to be one of them. Both teams bounced back from round 8 defeats to score confidence building victories last weekend so both will go in to the fixture with their heads held high.
The Saints have struggled to put back-to-back performances together this year but they will have to do so if they are to topple a Richmond side full of self belief. They beat a quality Sydney line up last weekend but looked to tire towards the end of the fixture so they will need to make a conscious effort to get out of the blocks quickly or risk losing the game in the first half. This is compounded by the fact they are backing up after just six days for the third week in a row. There is little doubt they have the roster but whether or not they have the fuel in the tank is the major query over the exciting Saints.
There is no doubt Richmond are a different team to the one that has languished at the bottom of the table in recent years. They have been particularly strong defensively and a large part is due to outstanding youngster Alex Rance who shutdown Lance Franklin during last weekend’s win over the Hawks. They made a quality Hawthorn line up look second rate and if they can re-produce a similar performance it is likely they can score another upset victory.
It is too hard to look past the performance of Richmond last weekend. They were tough in defence and exceptional in attack and if they are anywhere near that again they will just edge out the talented Saints.
Richmond by 8
Richmond win $2.00
The $2.00 is great value in a two-horse race where there is very little between the two teams.
