The match of the round this weekend features two teams who are likely to be around come the business end of the season. Adelaide have surprised most in the AFL community with their form this year and return fresh from a bye to tackle St Kilda. The Saints started the season in sluggish fashion but have bounced back in recent times and now sit eighth on the premiership ladder. They head into this weekend’s clash full of confidence after hammering Gold Coast by 95 points last weekend.
The Crows midfield have been key to their success this season and the likes of Thompson, Dangerfield and Sloane will have to be at their best as they come up against a team that features plenty of strong runners of their own. Montagna, Dal Santo and Hayes represent one of the biggest dangers to the Crows and they must be able to shut down their star midfield as well as key forward Nick Riewoldt. Nobody will be taking the Crows lightly from now and they must stand up and play like a top four team week in, week out or risk slipping down the premiership ladder.
The Sainters have really begun to hit their straps in recent weeks on the back of their star midfield and they will be boosted at the defensive end and in the ruck this weekend with the return of Fisher and McEvoy from injury. One thing St Kilda will have to overcome is a six-day turnaround which could be difficult given most of their key players are in their late 20s and early 30s.
Don’t be surprised if this one goes down to the wire but on the back of a week off and full set of fresh legs it should be Adelaide who just edge out St Kilda who will be tired after their six-day turnaround.
Adelaide by 8
The Crows should be too good for St Kilda and while they are short at $1.44 they provide a good banker to add to multis for a bumper weekend of AFL action.
