The AFL season is now more than half over and the cream has risen to the top while a number of teams are still battling away trying to stamp themselves as finals contenders. This week’s match of the round features surprise packets Adelaide (5th) who will be looking to bounce back from an upset defeat at the hands of the Kangaroos and Richmond (10th) who return with fresh legs after the bye.
They’ll go into the match as rightful favourites ($1.43) after a successful season to date but they will have to turn around last week’s effort where they performed well below their best. They were beaten across the park but were particularly poor in defence, allowing the Kangaroos to post 121 points. This key area will have to be rectified this weekend or they risk again being embarrassed by a team below them on the competition ladder. Look for mid-fielders Thompson and Dangerfield to come out firing after being down on their usual high numbers against the ‘roos.
After a horror start to the season, Richmond have turned it around of late and are a team that is capable of playing a role in September. With fresh legs, they should be back to their best after just scraping through against newcomers GWS in round 12. One of the key factors will be how inexperienced defenders Rance and Griffiths handle Adelaide pair Tippett and Walker.
With fresh legs, look for Richmond to come out firing and with Adelaide feeling the pressure after a tough loss they may just be able to get over the top of their more highly-fancied opponents.
Richmond by 4
With Richmond being the winning tip, taking them at $2.85 is huge value for a team that is capable of upsetting the big sides.
