A bumper Saturday afternoon fixture will take place at Simonds Stadium this weekend as second-placed Adelaide take on last year’s premiers Geelong. A capacity crowd is expected at Simonds Stadium to see Geelong attempt to improve their position form seventh on the ladder and prove they can once again challenge for the AFL title.
The reigning premiers head into this weekend’s fixture on the back of a sensational performance where they thumped Essendon 134-67. But just two weeks ago they were disappointing when losing to Collingwood and they must turn up on Saturday or risk suffering the same result at the hands of a strong Adelaide team. The Cats will be boosted for the fixture by the return of star player Jimmy Bartel who was absent for two weeks on suspension.
Adelaide have been on the surprise packets of the season and their form shows no signs of letting up. This weekend they will be chasing a fifth consecutive victory and will be strengthened by the return of Taylor Walker who topped the league’s goalkicking at one stage earlier this season. Their midfield has been one of the key reasons for success this year largely thanks to Patrick Dangerfield and the Crows will be looking to him to again excel this weekend. The Crows will have to overcome a poor record at Simonds Stadium, having not won there since 2003.
Geelong showed signs of the team that took last year’s crown against Essendon and if they can continue to build on that, combined with a home ground advantage, they should have the talent to end the Crows winning streak.
Geelong Win $1.67
