Saturday afternoon’s local derby looks set to be an explosive contest with both sides heading into the match off recent wins. There is plenty to play for as West Coast look to reclaim their stakes for a top four position while Fremantle are trying desperately to barge their way into the top eight. Can West Coast continue their local dominance and secure a fourth consecutive derby victory? Or will Fremantle finally break the shackles against their more highly-rated opponents?
There is no doubt the Dockers have found some late season form, having won their past four matches, but they will have to step up an extra gear on Saturday in order to knock off the Eagles. Despite their recent winning streak, Fremantle have struggled to put four quarters together but if they do that this weekend they will be on the end of yet another derby loss. They welcomed the return of Nat Fyfe last weekend and they will again look to him to provide spark in the midfield.
After starting the season in brilliant fashion, the Eagles have slipped of late and now sit in fifth place on the competition ladder. They are likely to miss captain Darren Glass this weekend who is out on suspension and how the backline plays without him will be a telling factor in Saturday’s contest.
While Fremantle have been impressive of late, the Eagles’ ability to score goals from all around the park and use 15 goalkickers against the Lions leaves us to believe they can continue their success in the local derby.
