AFL 2013 Premiership Odds – Two Rounds Left

There are only regular season two rounds left in the 2013 AFL Premiership with the finals now only just over a fortnight away.

The make-up of the top eight is all but complete but footy fans are still waiting patiently for the AFL to decide whether the Essendon Bombers will be stripped competition points and miss the finals because of the peptides scandal.

The Carlton Blues could be the lucky team to benefit from the Bombers misfortune and they are the only team currently sitting outside the top eight that are still included in the AFL Flag 2013 betting market at bookmaker.com.au.

Updated AFL 2013 Premiership Odds (From bookmaker.com.au)

Hawthorn Hawks $3

The Hawthorn Hawks remain the favourites to win the 2013 AFL Flag after bouncing back from their surprise defeat to the Richmond Tigers with impressive victories over St Kilda and Collingwood. The Hawks have the most talented roster in the entire AFL and will be the team to beat when the finals begin.

Geelong Cats $4

The Geelong Cats are locked in a battle with the Sydney Swans and the Fremantle Dockers for the key second position and the right to host two finals at their home ground. The Cats will face the Swans this weekend in a finals preview that could decide second place on the ladder and give the winner a major advantage in the AFL Finals.

Sydney Swans $4.40

After flying under the radar to win the flag last season, the Swans have been well backed to win back-to-back titles. No team have won back-to-back flags since the great Brisbane Lions side won three straight premierships in the early 2000s but the Swans will be very tough to beat come finals time and know what it takes to be victorious in September.

Fremantle Dockers $5.50

The Fremantle Dockers are still an outside chance to finish in the top two, which would be a huge boost to their premiership chances. The Dockers are the best drilled team in the competition and will be suited to the tough style of footy that is played during the finals. As long as their injury-plagued list can remain injury free the club is a good chance to win their inaugural premiership.

Collingwood Magpies $12

The Collingwood Magpies had the chance to make a big statement against the Hawks last Friday night but were outclassed across the park and will need to improve significantly if they are going to be a factor in the finals. The Magpies have generally struggled against the top teams this season and are well under their true odds.

Richmond Tigers $23

The Richmond Tigers are set to make their first finals appearance in twelve years and are an excellent chance to make a deep run. The Tigers proved with their win over Hawthorn that one their day they can match it with any other team in the competition and at their current price they represent good betting value.

Port Adelaide Power $67

Coach Ken Hinkley has done a marvelous job rebuilding a list that struggled badly during the 2012 season. As long as they win one of their last two games, against Fremantle and Carlton, the Power are guaranteed a berth in the finals but they are unlikely to play a major role. Expect the Power to finish an excellent season with a loss in the first week of the finals.

Essendon Bombers $101

Even if they are allowed to play in the AFL Finals, which now appears unlikely, the Bombers are a spent force this season. The controversy that has surrounded them all year appears to have caught up with the squad and they have lost their last four games. Any bet on them at this point would be speculative at best.

Carlton Blues $201

Based on their results this season Carlton don’t deserve to make the AFL Finals but they may be given a lifeline if the AFL decides to punish Essendon by stripping them of competition points. The Blues will likely only be rounding out the numbers if they end up playing finals football.
