2013 AFL Finals – Week 1 Preview

The 2013 AFL regular season is over for another year and the top eight teams (excluding the Essendon Bombers who were excluded from the finals due to the peptide scandal) are let to battle in the 2013 AFL Finals Season.

All four matches this weekend are set to be exciting affairs and the underdog has a legitimate chance of recording a victory in each game.

Friday – Hawthorn (1) vs Sydney (4)

Hawthorn (1.53) are the clear favourites but head into this game with a number of question marks. Star forward Lance Franklin will miss the game due to suspension while the delicious Cyril Rioli may miss the game due to a nagging injury. Sydney ($2.52) have made a habit of stepping up for big games and despite losing to the Hawks last week they are an excellent chance to spring an upset tonight.

Saturday – Geelong (2) vs Fremantle (3)

All the talk in the lead-up to this game has surrounded the AFL’s decision to move the game to Simmonds Stadium. The move clearly favors Geelong ($1.35) but it does not give them as big an edge as many experts are predicting. The Cats should win in a close one but the Dockers are the best bet for punters looking for value.

Saturday – Collingwood (6) vs Port Adelaide (7)

Collingwood are expected to win this game comfortably but you cannot write off Port Adelaide who have surpassed expectations all year long. There is no pressure on Port Adelaide and they can go out and give it a crack while the Magpies could get the yips in a game that they really should win.

Sunday – Richmond (5) vs Carlton (8)

Richmond are returning to the AFL Finals for the first time since 2001 and the Tigerland army is expected to get out to the MCG in full force. Carlton are lucky to have made it this far and although they beat the Tigers last time they have generally failed to perform in big games through the 2013 season.

The Tip: Richmond by 18

The Bet: Bet on Richmond to win outright at Ladbrokes.com.au.
