2014 AFL Round Ten Betting Preview

There are plenty of important clashes in Round Ten of the 2014 AFL Season, but none more so than the top of the table clash between Port Adelaide and Hawthorn.

While Port Adelaide have the opportunity to stamp themselves as genuine Premiership contenders, a number of other teams are just about playing for their seasons this weekend and Carlton and Richmond both simply have to win to be any chance of playing finals football.

Our team of sports betting experts have analysed every game of round nine of the 2014 AFL Season and come up with the best bets for this weekend.

Friday – Geelong Cats vs North Melbourne Kangaroos

This is a very interesting Friday night clash and a key clash for the North Melbourne Kangaroos if they wish to remain in the hunt for a top four finish.

The Kangaroos have dropped a number of games that they should have won this season, but have generally been at the top of their game when taking on other finals contenders; claiming wins Port Adelaide, Sydney and Fremantle.

Bookmakers are offering the Kangaroos a very generous start and Geelong have failed to put sides away this season, so we are expecting this to be a far closer contest than many experts have predicted.

The Tip: Geelong by 5

The Bet: North Melbourne to beat the spread (+15.5 at Ladbrokes.com.au)

Saturday – Port Adelaide Power vs Hawthorn Hawks

This is easily the match of the round, but the match has lost some of its luster because of the number of injuries that have hit the Hawthorn squad.

The Hawks have been decimated by injury throughout this season, but are still only one victory away from the top of the table.

Port Adelaide will go into this game in the unusual position of being the favourites to knock off another top four team and it will be interesting to see how they handle this pressure in front of their parochial home fans at the Adelaide Oval.

Hawthorn have shown in recent times that they can never be ruled out and, despite their injury toll, remain chance of scoring an upset win.

The Tip: Hawthorn by 8

The Bet: Hawthorn to win and beat the spread ($2.85 and -15.5 at Ladbrokes.com.au)

Sunday – Gold Coast Suns vs Western Bulldogs

The Gold Coast Suns put on a clinical performance against St Kilda last weekend, led by the little champion Gary Ablett, and there is nothing to suggest that they won’t do the same against the Western Bulldogs this weekend.

The Bulldogs have performed bravely so far this season and are turning into a team that enjoys a scrap, but the Suns should have far too much class for this battling unit and should be able to beat the spread comfortably.

The Tip: Gold Coast by 31

The Bet: Gold Coast to beat the spread (-27.5 at Ladbrokes.com.au)
