Round 11 of the 2014 AFL season got underway last night with the Sydney Swans stamping themselves as premiership favourites with a dominant victory over Geelong, but there are still plenty of big games this weekend.
Indigenous Round is highlighted by the Dreamtime At The G clash between the Richmond Tigers and Carlton Blues at the MCG on Saturday night and every side this weekend will wear a special edition jersey featuring Indigenous designs.
Like most weekends in the AFL there are plenty of betting opportunities and our team of sports betting experts have come up with the best bets for Round 11.
Friday – St Kilda Saints vs Collingwood Magpies
Saint Kilda showed signs of promise and improvement at the start of the year, but they have been the victims of some big beatings in recent weeks and face another tough assignment against Collingwood this weekend.
While Collingwood should be far too strong for their Melbourne-based rivals, the spread that has been set by bookmakers is fairly large and we don’t expect this game to turn into a shootout.
It is tough to have any faith in St Kilda, but they won’t be blown out of the water against the Magpies and are a fair chance to beat the spread.
The Tip: Collingwood by 34
The Bet: St Kilda to beat the spread (+46.5 at Ladbrokes.com.au)
Saturday – Melbourne Demons vs Port Adelaide Power
Port Adelaide are currently sitting four points clear on top of the 2014 AFL Premiership ladder and it would be a massive upset if they are upset by the Melbourne Demons this weekend.
The Demons have come long in massive strides this year, under the care of Paul Roos, but they simply don’t have the talent on the park to compete with the best sides in the competition like Port Adelaide.
Port Adelaide should record another comfortable victory this weekend and looks extremely likely to put at least a 40 point margin on the Demons and easily account for the spread.
The Tip: Port Adelaide by 48
The Bet: Port Adelaide to beat the spread (-36.5 at Ladbrokes.com.au)
Sunday – Adelaide Crows vs Gold Coast Suns
This is arguably the most intriguing clash of the round; with the in-form Gold Coast Suns taking on the Adelaide Crows in front of their rampant home fans at the Adelaide Oval.
Gold Coast have not lost a game since they were beaten by Hawthorn in round four, but it is fair to say they have not beaten the cream of the competition and face a much tougher test against the Crows away from home.
In saying that, Adelaide have been inconsistent so far this season and based on their current odds the Suns are great value to score an upset win and extend their impressive unbeaten streak.
The Tip: Gold Coast by 11
The Bet: Gold Coast to win ($2.40 at Ladbrokes.com.au)
