The 2014 AFL season continues with round 15 this weekend and the finals series is now only two months away.
Port Adelaide, Hawthorn, Sydney and Fremantle are the clear favourites to finish in the top four, but there are still a number of teams fighting for the final four positions in the finals; with the likes of Essendon, West Coast and Adelaide sitting just outside the top eight.
There are a number of short-priced favourites this weekend, but our team of sports betting experts have analysed the betting markets for every single game to come up with the best betting plays.
Friday – Geelong Cats vs Essendon Bombers
Geelong’s chances of finishing in the top four took a hit after their loss to the Gold Coast last weekend, while Essendon returned to winning form with a courageous win over Adelaide.
Geelong are still a safe bet to finish in the top eight, but their days as a genuine premiership contender seem to be numbered and this is a danger game for the side that has been pushed by the likes of Carlton and Richmond this season.
The ASADA scandal is still hanging over the head of Essendon and it would take another massive effort for them to score an upset victory, but this match should be closer than what the bookies are currently predicting.
The Tip: Geelong by 12
The Bet: Essendon to beat the spread (+20.5 at Ladbrokes.com.au)
Saturday – Fremantle Dockers vs West Coast Eagles
Fremantle have dominated the Western Derby in recent years and even the most optimistic West Coast Eagles fan will not be heading into this game with a great deal of confidence.
After their patchy start to the season, the Dockers have returned to the form that got them all the way to the AFL Grand Final last season and they were clinical against the Brisbane Lions last weekend.
The West Coast Eagles are still a chance of qualifying for the AFL Finals, but they are simply not good enough to compete with the best teams in the competition and will struggle against their Western Australian rivals this weekend.
The Tip: Fremantle by 54
The Bet: Fremantle to beat the spread (-23.5 at Ladbrokes.com.au)
Sunday– Adelaide Crows vs Port Adelaide Power
‘Showdown’ is one of the most anticipated matches of the AFL calendar each and every season and this game is no exception; with both South Australian sides desperate to record a victory against their local rivals.
Port Adelaide remain one game clear at the top of the 2014 AFL ladder and will be desperate not to let that advantage slip, especially against their archrivals, while Adelaide will need to win six of their last eight games to be a genuine chance of qualifying for the finals.
Showdowns are generally a close affair, but this young Port Adelaide side has shown that they are not overawed by big occasions and should be able to record a comfortable win over the Crows.
The Tip: Port Adelaide by 33
The Bet: Port Adelaide to beat the spread (-18.5 at Ladbrokes.com.au)
