2014 AFL Round 21 Betting Preview

There are only three rounds left in the 2014 regular season, but we are no closer to discovering who will be playing Finals Football in September.

There are just eight points separating North Melbourne in sixth and Richmond in 12th and this weekend will feature a couple of virtual ‘eight point games’ that will go a long way to deciding who fills out the bottom half of the top eight.

With so many teams still with plenty to play for at this stage of the season, there are plenty of betting opportunities available in the AFL this weekend and our sports betting experts have complied a number of profitable plays.

Friday – Carlton Blues vs Geelong Cats

Carlton appear to be relishing their role as finals spoilers and they all but ended the finals chances of Gold Coast last weekend just a fortnight after they crushed the top four hopes of North Melbourne.

Geelong kept themselves in the hunt for the minor premiership with their narrow win over Fremantle last weekend and coach Chris Scott will be desperate for his side to build on that momentum heading into the finals.

While nobody can deny that Carlton has played well in the past month, they still don’t have the talented or quality of Geelong and online bookmakers have offered what appears to be a generous line for this Friday Night Football Clash.

Saturday – Adelaide Crows vs Richmond Tigers

This is a class ‘eight point game’ as the fight for a place in the top eight continues and both sides can do their chances of playing football in September a big boost by winning tomorrow night.

After their awful start to the season Richmond have finally found form and extended their winning streak to six with their victory over Essendon last week – the first time they have won this many games in a row since 1995.

Adelaide bounced back from their loss to West Coast with a demolition of the Brisbane Lions last weekend, but they face a far tougher assignment against a Richmond side that is arguably the form team of the entire competition.

This game could easily go either the way and that means the odds currently available for Richmond represent outstanding value.

The Tip: Adelaide by 2

The Bet: Richmond to beat the line (+15.5 @ Ladbrokes.com.au)

Sunday– Fremantle Dockers vs Hawthorn Hawks

This is a rematch of the 2013 AFL Grand Final and a key game for both sides as they look to build towards another run to the Grand Final during the 2014 AFL Finals Series.

Hawthorn have had the wood over Fremantle since the Dockers developed into genuine Premiership contenders and they gave them an absolute flogging when they met earlier this year in round three.

Fremantle were almost able to pull off a big comeback against Geelong last weekend and they will need to bounce back quickly from the disappointment of that loss if they are going to be any chance against Hawthorn on Sunday.

The Tip: Hawthorn by 17

The Bet: Hawthorn to win ($2.25 @ Ladbrokes.com.au)
