2014 AFL Round 22 Betting Preview

The shootout for the final place in the top eight continues in earnest this weekend; with Adelaide Crows, Richmond Tigers, Collingwood Magpies and the Gold Coast Suns all equal on 40 points.

Collingwood and Gold Coast both look as though their chances of playing finals football are finished, based on their recent form, but Richmond have form at the right end of the season and are set to fight the Crows all the way for a September berth.

There are plenty of blowouts expected in Round 22 of the 2014 AFL season, but our sports betting experts have still found the best betting plays for this weekend.

Friday – Port Adelaide vs Carlton Blues

Carlton have found a semblance of their best form at the end of the season and they were unlucky not to score an upset win over Geelong last weekend.

The Blues are laying the foundations for 2015 and they will be keen to finish their season with wins over Port Adelaide and Essendon.

Port Adelaide were far from convincing in their narrow win over the Gold Coast last weekend, but they return to their Adelaide Oval fortress tonight and should be too strong for Carlton in a close game.

The Tip: Port Adelaide by 9

The Bet: Carlton to beat the line (+24.5 at Ladbrokes.com.au)

Saturday – Hawthorn Hawks vs Geelong Cats

This is easily the game of the round and both sides need to win to keep alive their chances of winning the minor premiership.

The Hawks may have ended the Kennett curse last year, but Geelong have dominated Hawthorn in recent years and have nine of their last ten meetings, including their Easter Monday clash earlier this year.

Hawthorn will be desperate to return to winning form after their disappointing loss to Fremantle last Saturday, but there is a question mark over how much that tough away trip to Western Australian has taken out of them.

The Tip: Geelong by 7

The Bet: Geelong to win ($2.55 at Ladbrokes.com.au)

Sunday– Brisbane Lions vs Fremantle Dockers

The Brisbane Lions did the likes of Essendon, Adelaide and Richmond a massive favor when they upset Collingwood last weekend and they will be keen to record another big upset against Fremantle on Saturday.

Fremantle stamped themselves as Premiership contenders once again with their strong victory over Hawthorn last weekend, but will be without star midfielder Nathan Fyfe for this clash after he was suspended for striking Jordan Lewis.

The Dockers need to win this game to lock up a spot in the top four and it is hard to see them letting this game slip against the inconsistent Lions side.

The Tip: Fremantle by 34

The Bet: Fremantle to beat the line (-22.5 at Ladbrokes.com.au)
