2014 AFL Round 23 Betting Preview

The final round of the 2014 AFL regular season is here and we still don’t know which eight sides will be playing in the opening round of finals football next weekend.

The West Coast Eagles are in the box seat to finish in eighth position, but the Adelaide Crows, Richmond Tigers and even the Collingwood Magpies remain a chance of sneaking into the top eight if results go their way this weekend.

There are plenty of betting opportunities in the final weekend of the 2014 AFL season and our sports betting experts believe they have found plenty of winning plays that will help us finish the season with a win!

Friday – Collingwood Magpies vs Hawthorn Hawks

This is a key game for both sides as Hawthorn need to win to guarantee themselves a top four finish, while Collingwood are still an outside chance of making the finals if they can upset the Hawks tonight.

The injury crisis that has hit Collingwood in recent weeks is almost unprecedented and the Magpies have named a very inexperienced squad for what is likely their final game of the season, while the Hawks could still rest a few of their stars.

The line of 49 and a half points for this game seems just about right and there is no value backing Hawthorn to win outright, but the footy freaks special available with leading online bookmaker Ladbrokes does offer some value.

The Tip: Hawthorn by 47

The Bet: Jarryd Roughead to kick 4 or more goals and Hawthorn to win ($2.75 at Ladbrokes.com.au)

Saturday – Fremantle Dockers vs Port Adelaide Power

The finals basically starts a week early for both the Fremantle Dockers and the Port Adelaide Power as the winner of this game will finish in fourth and earn themselves two bites of the cherry in the finals.

Port Adelaide returned to a semblance of their best form against Carlton last weekend, but they face a tough assignment taking on the Dockers at their Patersons Stadium fortress.

The Dockers look to be finding form at the right time of the season and while the Power should be able to give them a shake, Fremantle should be too strong in the final stages and set up a finals clash with Sydney.

The Tip: Fremantle by 21

The Bet: Fremantle to beat the line (-13.5 at Ladbrokes.com.au)

Sunday–  Gold Coast Suns vs West Coast Eagles

The West Coast Eagles will be sweating on the result of the Sydney Swans/Richmond Tigers game on Saturday night and this could be a dead rubber if the Tigers are successful.

However, if the Swans are able to beat the Tigers than the Eagles will likely only need the four points from this clash with the Suns to play finals football and based on their recent form they should be good things.

The Suns have been unable to compensate for Gary Ablett and the Eagles will be pumped up to win this game, even if they are out of finals contention, in order to send retiring hero Dean Cox out a winner

The Tip: West Coast by 28

The Bet: West Coast to beat the line (-16.5 at Ladbrokes.com.au)
